Thinking about tinkering around with building a new strapless toy? Have some feedback about construction, materials, rocker line? Post it here.

Hey OSTAPneBENDER,

Welcome to Lose the Straps! Thanks for posting your shots! Very cool. Nice jersey! I did not realize that the Miami Dolphins, my home town football team had a following in St. Petersburg! 8) It looks like a beautiful spot where you ride, but still pretty cold water! I would not worry too much about your English, it's much better than my Russian! :D

Hi OSTAPneBENDER,

I like that board of yours! interesting shape. Would you mind to post the measurements? length, width, rocker? is it symmetric or asymmetric?

Cheers, tungsten

Thanks for posting the measurements!

From my experience and what I see on the pics:

60cm is too wide, go max. 52cm.
125cm is too short (board is probably twitchy / nervous), go 140cm.
And the flip tips are for sure slowing your board down as they create a lot of drag. You see this in the pic with a big wake behind the board.

See here how to make flip tips work

Hi tungsten!
60cm is too wide,
125cm is too short

there is a quite simple explanation - we have nice sheets of styrofoam here measured exactly 125x60x3. =) i know that OSTAP is going to build a new board so i ask here for him (hope he will forgive me=).
what about blunt nose skim design? any thoughts?

It all depends what you want the board to feel like... if you choose a design with a blunt nose, your rail in the tip is less curved than with a round nose. Imagine a blunt nose is a longer board with a cut off nose. Less curved rail in the tip normally means you have to put in more front rocker if you want to use the board in waves, the turning radius for carving depends on the rail line together with the rocker line. (imagine you are carving, then the board is sitting in the water on the rail, canted up at a certain angle. The active rail line that determines your carving circle is roughly the line the bottom of your board is forming on the water surface. As you see, it depends on the cant angle and your foot position, and where your weight is centered - if you drive it off the front foot, it's the tip design which has more influence; if you drive it off the back foot, the tip may be out of the water, and the tail design will determine your carving).

Lots to play with. Have fun!

I decided to build a board like Morphius
Eric Roush - 51 3/4 Morphius
LENGTH: 4'3" 129.54 cm
NOSE: 9 3/4" at" 22.86 cm
MID: 20"" 50.80 cm
TAIL: 11 1/2" at" 27.94 cm
THICK: 3/4"" 7.62 cm

I want use leight 138cm, width 52cm

Hey, measurements sound good, but the board is very thick. If you're a normal guy say 80-90kg, I would go 2.5-4cm thick, no more.
