New project: Slim Surfboard

As I wrote in the post of presentation:
Now I have decided to build another much less thick, like the Kipuna/LiteWave DB9/ArribaArriba Excavated etc...so I saw here the work of Tungsten and asked him some advice.

The result was much paulownia, hard work and a lot of satisfaction!!
Really thanks to Tungsten, without his post I would never have had the inspiration..we can say that this is my version of his board

Measure 5.8" x 18"(170cm x 46cm)
Glassed with epoxy and 200gr glass(should be your 6OZ more or less..)
Fins are the futures AM1.
This Tuesday I should be able to try it! I will let you know how it goes..

Yeah, I put the footstrap inserts..I will use it mainly without straps, but in case of strong wind and big waves prefer to be quieter.

When I learn good strapless not I'll need more, but until then..

Hi Alexlecce,

Wow, great result! Thanks to Tungsten I also have build one, but not using the 'strip method' but like the first one he posted. I rode it today for the first time, and I think it was great. I'll have to work on my gybing though, because up to now it involves a lot of getting wet

I see you use a cork deckpad, is that correct? Are you not worried it will suck up a lot of water and then fall apart? I have no experience whatsoever with this material, so I really would like to hear from you if it stays okay!

Thanks Karst!

Yes, the pad is made of cork and absorbs little water.
That's because is not natural cork but it is called "agglomerated cork", in practice the insulating panels that use in construction.
Agglomerated cork is made up of many small pieces ground held together by an adhesive, then the water enters into these spaces but not in real cork

I think it will be quite resistant because it will be subjected only to compression and no tensile, but to be on the safe and avoid well as the weight of the absorbed water I'll give it a light coat of waterproof Impregnating.

Wow, you guys are incredible! I'm currently traveling and was cut off the web for some time, when I see THIS... what a beautiful piece of work. Never thought someone would be determined enough to use the strip method and really cut out 25 stringers just for one board . Amazingly good looking board. How did you groove the deck pad? That is a perfect result.

Yes Tungten, a lot of work but it seems it was worth it!
I did everything with a router..round router bit and a ruler for channels and pointed for the flowers

I tried the board a couple of times .. really beautiful!
Go upwind easy, it is very comfortable with its flex and literally eats the chop!

Now I just have to learn to use it well in the waves!
