Skim shape

Hi, people im new here.
Im planing on making my first foam skimboard. The thing is i have a problem i cant decide what shape i want. I have ridden board shaped like the board on the right but i think the left one will be much more stable ( it is airush skim shape). Length should be around 130cm with 4 cm front and 2 cm rear rocker. Any opinions?

Hi Mark, welcome to LTS and congrats for losing the straps

Assuming the rocker you described (which is spot on for a flat water skim), shape will produce different results depending on your weight and water conditions. I would say this:

- 130 cm is at the lower end length wise for a 80kg rider. If you weigh less, it's OK. If you weigh more, you might want to consider 135cm or 140cm in length.
- The left shape has more surface overall, and especially more surface in the tail.
- Left shape is therefore better suited for low wind use and more rider weight.
- Right shape is better suited for higher wind and smaller rider weight. A more pinned tail and narrower shape allows you to hold down significantly more air.

So it comes down to your personal specs and the wind & water conditions you are using your board in. IMHO.

I have 83 kg. Most of the time I ride 5' 11" underground kipuna. Im trying to trying to build something that I can use in wake cable park and for kite riding in very shallow water or maby as number one board if i fall in love with it .

If you're happy with 5'11 Kipuna @ 83kg, I'd recommend going a bit bigger, like 135cm, with the wider shape.

and this should be the stringer. what do you think?

Mark, this is a bit difficult.. without seeing the board as such, the stringer only is just a pointer. It's important to know the board specs: entrance rocker, tail rocker. Can you post those?

Neverthelesss, I tell you what I see:

The entrance section looks good, nice curvature. The exit section looks a bit too curved. You want a flat section in the middle of a skim, which normally is achieved by an adequate amount of concave. This looks more like a potato chip (only looking at the rocker as displayed, that is), which would be very loose and require lots of wind. Not a usual skim rocker as is, rather a wake board rocker.

Length of the board is 53", nose rocker is 2" starting 20" from nose and tail is 1" starting 16" from tail. After some more research i think i will go with Zap shape something like Comp or maby a bit wider Wilson.
