Hey Patrick, thanks for posting that funny vid. Brilliant. Makes me want to have my own Alaia asap.

I have got a couple paulownia planks lying around, so this is going to be my next project. A quick question: What size? can you compare to surf boards? My kite surfboard preferred size is 5'8 by 19" for eveything from 10 to 30kn.

What do you reckon should my Alaia be like, size wise?

cheers, tungsten

Hi,
I used waterlust's outline PDF to make myself a composit alaia. Size and shape are super great. When I took it for a first rinde, I imediately got a feeling, like I knew this board for years. And I have very little strapless experience. You can not go wrong using waterlusts instructions

Alaia realy is a Magic!!! :D :D :D
I can't believe how good this board goes upwind. It's crazy! I have now kited so high upwind at my spot, I have never kited before and everyone else was so far downwind from me. So I had peace to train my jibes. I'm loving this LTS style more and more.
Also had very low tide at full moon. Finless Alaia was perfect for this.

The waterlust graham cracker board outline is a good one. My redwood alaia recently broke and I used the graham cracker outline for a new alaia, made out of 1/2" baltic birch plywood, hot coat of epoxy, no glass. I glued 12"x12" anti-fatigue gym mats to the top of the deck (thanks Tungsen). I extended the length by ~6" to match my recently broken redwood alaia, but am now thinking of chopping it down to the stock graham cracker shape to better handle chop. Thank you Waterlust for sharing the video, the instructions, and the outline. I like finless boards for light wind conditions at my local beach, as regular surfboards are prone to running aground and losing/breaking fins (as I did today by accident).

Hi!

How hard is it to do an ollie (pop) with the Alaia compared to other boards?
Which/what kind of board is the easiest to learn on?
Does using a small wave or chop as a kicker help in the learning curve, or would it be better to learn/perfect it on flat/small chop?
