Hi...
I just wonder, what kite surfboard leash I should buy..... there is few different length and thickness of leashes???
I found this on net, is this applied for kiting too..? - "Your leash needs to be at least as long as your board. This allows enough room between you and your board when you take a mullering."
Thanks

Hi Sash, personally I do not use a board leash for kiting. Here's why: in normal conditions, there's no need to take the additional risk of tying yourself to the board. Enough strings involved already when you go through the washing machine. In some extreme conditions, like strong currents or very high waves, together with a really skilled rider, I see some sense in using one. But that's IMHO the top notch people.

That said, people using one told me the best results are achieved with long board leashes, like 3-4m.

Hi Tungsten....
Thanks for your post...
I totaly agree with you and i don't use the board leash myself, but I'm sure there will be time when it will be necessary to have one, like kite with other water users on good day (I think they will appreciat it :)) rocky and other leash needed locations/conditions too.... so, just incase I need it I have one
Cheers

You may want to give this link a read.

I give another vote for no leash. But in offshore conditions, strong currents, or self rescue, I can see a leash being useful. I have the 1.2M of webbing on my harness with a shackle on my harness for releasing, and a larkshead on the other end to attach to the board (or to my harness when not in use, which is a majority of the time).

If you have to hook yourself up to your board use a reel style leash because it won't load up and shoot the board back at you. You can add an extension to get the length you want, but don't use material that has a lot of stretch to it or it can load up and fire the board at you.
