Quad Fin Questions

Postby kiterMD » Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:32 am

So I've gotten into strapless surfing on a 6'x19" quad in side to side on small to medium mushy surf (and one epic side off day!). The board drives great through bottom turns, but I feel it could turn sharper and the tail could break loose easier with smaller fins. I currently have Future Fins VII Q1 fronts (4.4") and 3.75" rears. Would changing the rears to 3.4" make much difference? How about Grom fins (VII QFSG1, 4.16")? Or should I just take the rear fins off and ride twinzer? I'm 5'10' and 170lbs if it helps. Thanks!

Dont make it a twinzer.
Keep the front fins the same, and put the smallest rear fins in you can find.
A little fin change makes a HUGE difference.
If you can't find small enough fins, just get another set and chop the top off, sounds dumb but works really good!

Thanks! I'll put some 340 rears on and see how it goes...

Thanks for the advice! I wouldn't say that the smaller rear fins made a "huge" difference, but just enough to have a lot more fun. Didn't lose any noticeable upwind ability or drive through the bottom turns, but the board got more playful off the lip! Only two sessions on it so far, hope to get more soon....
