Short lines

Sometimes it's good to re-evaluate some old ideas, and today was one of those sessions.

The concept of using really short (sub 13m) lines is not new, and guys like Lou have been using them from time to time since 2001, but it's been a while since I gave them a try and in that time kites, boards and my personal riding style has changed.

So, when I got down to the beach today I decided to give it a bash, strapless on the Go2 with 12m lines rigged on my 12m kite.

The wind was around 18kt, which was probably perfect for what I wanted and the short lines def added a different dimension to the session.
The wind window is so small that you have to dive the kite like crazy (without crashing it into the water) just to get going, but once you are going the direct feel and responsiveness are freakish.

It allows you to really get stuck into the wave without worrying too much about the kite if that is your choice, or if you're into wakestyle it brings a super nice feel to those moves without throwing the kite.

Use a kite size bigger than you think as you'll need the power to get going.
