I am 165lbs and am considering a surfskate . You guys both like the 4'10".

Can you paddle surf that or do you find it too small?

I am tossing up between the 4'10" and the 5'0". Also what are your thoughts about thickness? 2", 2.25" or 2.5"?

Thanks

I guess the construction is durable?

I currently surf on a 7'9" and a 9'6". Something smaller is needed.

im kinda fat so im using custom epoxys shaped by john roddenberry, 6'4" squash tail thruster and 6'1" squash, tails, these are the same boards i surf on. when its really nuking with tow type waves ill use a 5' 0" thin' pulled in, pintail. all these boards are strapless as once you put straps on them they magically turn into kiteboards and your kiteboarding( not that theres anything wrong with that) its just a bit too easy.
besides the straps get in the way of my high performance butt boarding on the waves.

Look what I stumbled across in a surf shop for $180. I have not tried it yet. Its made by Soloman and is 5'0".

Go for the 5'0 for sure.
Unless you live in a high wind area.
The great thing about the surfskate is that it will handle extreme amounts of wind, the only downside is that when the swell is overhead, there isnt much you can do.

GOOD FIND!
the solomon is a really good ride. Handles bigger surf than a surfskate, but not as good in lighter winds.
Let us know how you like it!

Re: The best stapless surfboard

On sunday I went looking for a surf board. I was thinking of either throwing down the $600 for a placebo surfskate or $100-200 for a used 6'0" thruster. No body sells Placebo in Santa Cruz it seems. I had gone to 5 or so surfshops looking at used boards and in the last one before leaving town, right at the front of the rack of used boards was that Soloman. As soon as I saw it I knew I was going to buy it.

Anyway I rode it today, there was not much in the way of waves but i like it alot so far. Still need to work on the kiteflying while on the wave.
