FL in XMAS

Postby chanson » Thu Oct 23, 2008 4:45 pm

Not sure where to put this post but,

FL-guys...

I just received an invitaition from my parents to have my GF and I down to Stuart Island, FL over Xmas..It will be the 25th-29th. We have not commited yet, but I have heard FL goes off in the winter, and wanted to ask how good it could be, and how is the kiting around Stuart Island?? What kite sizes..? I don't think it is too far from Jupiter-area also... My parents say they see kiters directly infront of their condo, but wanted to ask you guys....

Thanks,
Jake

Hey Jake,

Originally I had a local scene forum, but since we are so small no one was posting there....

That is great. Glad you are shooting down to the Sunshine State. Florida's wind is all frontal driven, but yes there is a good possibility we will have wind. Its kind of a crap shoot though because you will need to catch a cold front. Here is a link to our NOAA weather marine forecast so you can check the forecast before you come down:
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/Florida.shtml

Click on the buoy closest to the middle of Florida and you can get the forecast for that region. If you catch a front you can expect anything from 15-20 up to 40 depending on the strength of the front. Also it will hopefully blow from the N - NE, but NW is not really great, but still doable if you head to Jupiter. Also you will need like a 3/4 full wetsuit, but is still relatively warm as far as water temp goes.

See if you can spare a couple more days and you can come ride in South Florida. You and your GF are welcome to crash in my spare room for a few days.

Let me know if you have any other questions that I can answer.
