skimboards in freestyle events...scoring?

This is the place to talk about riding styles, tricks, conditions, what works, what doesn't on your skimboard. Wondering about what skimboard to get for kiting? Post it all here.

skimboards in freestyle events...scoring?

Postby biggins » Mon Jul 06, 2009 10:38 pm

I was at the gorge games last year and saw several skims competing against twin tips and it got me wondering how the judges scored the event.
At first, I thought there was no way that Joey would do well since the judges normally have a set score for each trick, but he advanced quite well...granted the wind dropped so at one point he was the only one in the box.

So, anyway, how are tricks judged on skims? Does anyone have a list of tricks and point awarded etc.?

thanks,

j

ps, I:m not planning on competing or anything since I suck, but just curious how they compare an apple to an orange...thanks

I think its about creativity and progression..

last year we say joey doing things no one has done in constest format ( I think ) and that's why the judges were so stoked..
I bet you will see more of this too..

I thought about entering a comp like BOG or some expression session like that, but I'm not up to that level yet..

how about the SSS....? dudes on wakeskates and maybe skims killing it there..

As an overall... here is how the BOG is getting judged...and it's this weekend..
Riders will be scored by a panel of judges based upon their entire
heat, not on individual tricks. The riders will be judged on overall
impression based upon:
i. Technical difficulty
ii. Power & Speed
iii. Variety
iv. Height
v. Smoothness
vi. Style
vii. Innovation

I have competed about 3 or 4 times on my skim, and every time except once I competed against guys on twin tips doing mostly wake tricks. Overall, its pretty hard to compete that way because mostly the judges either do not look at you or do not know what you are doing. The last even I competed in was a strapless expression session and it was judged by guys ride strapless which made a big difference. I do think that as strapless gets more mainstream events will begin to feature a strapless division and there will be a general guideline for judging. Chanson's list of criteria for judging is pretty good. I always liked rider judged expression sessions.
