got my new skim today

This is the place to talk about riding styles, tricks, conditions, what works, what doesn't on your skimboard. Wondering about what skimboard to get for kiting? Post it all here.

got my new skim today

Postby mattv » Wed Nov 05, 2008 7:38 am

I got my new skim today and had it on the water within 3 hours. The conditions were perfect. Flat water and 12-16 knots.

The board is 54x21x1 and has one fin in the back. I took the fin off and filled the holes with wax but I plan on putting a surf fin in when the waves are up.

The board is not a custom. I got it off eBay for $225. The board is supposed to be a wakesurfer and has more rocker than your traditional skim board but I need that at my local spots. We get some flat water but mostly chop and I have found that too little rocker is no fun in chop.

Are you leaving the fin in?? If you have riden both with and without the fin, please post a review of each. I have tried with the fin in the past and wasn't that stoked, but maybe I need to try again.

Unlike skim-surf'n, as skim-kiters, we ride the rail of the board alot more.
I'd think a fin on the rail would be better/more effective than a single fin at the tail..

just a thought..

I go both ways. I have it setup with a single 2" surf fins for waves and can take the find off, filled the holes with candle wax, and go skim style on flat days.
