Thought on cheap wood skimboard...

This is the place to talk about riding styles, tricks, conditions, what works, what doesn't on your skimboard. Wondering about what skimboard to get for kiting? Post it all here.

Thought on cheap wood skimboard...

Postby lovethepirk » Sun May 08, 2016 7:17 pm

Hey all, new member here. I've been kiting for almost a year and was looking for a skimboard b/c I hear they are good for light wind.

i went cheap and got the skimboard below for $40 all in. It is 49" x 23"...not as long as a bigger skim but wider so I think that makes up for it.

I road it for the first time the other day with only wax and it was fun. Problem is we had 18mph winds and 5-6 foot swells and major chop getting out. I was able to stay on the board and hold my ground probably b/c I'm used to the chop.

Anyway, is this board going to suffer in the lightwind compared to any other type of non-wood board? I'm not in the mood to lay out a ton of money for a skim, I just wanna goof around with it. Do you think mine will handle the chop as good as a non-wood board?

BTW...the tail end of the board has reverse rocker...then the tip has nice rocker...I was able to ride it both ways regardless and the thing was so slippery it was kind of a cool feeling.

Thanks.
