Questions about Zap Large Pro

Postby Henry » Wed Jun 12, 2013 10:13 am

Love the site !!! I saw you had some post about Zap. Had a couple questions.

I weigh 160ish ride in choppy waves 2 to 6 feet on lake michigan.

Was looking at boards the zap pro is really only big enough board in my price range, I found a site selling them for great deal with free shipping. Is this a good board? I heard it has lots of rocker, will it still ride good in like 13~16 mph as that is when I will be riding it? I also wanna use the board for normal skimboarding. If I go with the zap pro would you suggest a medium or large for me? I don't like too too wide boards usually so am leaning towards medium but you probably have much more experience with skim sizing.

Also you don't have any used boards for sale by chance do you?

Thanks

Hey Henry,

Thanks for joining us here at LTS!
I would recommend you read some of the reviews in the skimboard section here:

Also check out the FAQs here:

You might also find this post insightful:

Specifically the Phase 5 Prop is pretty much identical to a Zap Large Pro. For kitesurfing, and especially your first board I would recommend the Large, as I have ridden both extensively. You are my identical weight. I can ride powered easily in 12 - 13 mph on my 12m Switchblade.

Unfortunately, I do not have any boards for sale, but sometimes people post them on the forum. If there is someone in your area that has one definitely borrow it for a ride to see if you like it. I do not skimboard without a kite, so honestly I cannot advise you there. What works without a kite will not necessarily be the same, or be the best choice for both applications. You may have to decide what is more important, light wind performance vs. fun in waves. A bigger board will be more efficient, but may not feel as fun or snappy in waves. But if I had to be pinned to one board I would definitely go with the Large vs. the Medium.

If you have any additional questions please let me know.

Keep ripping,

Lonny
