What's Up Everyone:

My name is Carter and am a 27 year old recent law school graduate in Jacksonville Beach, FL. Have been kiting about 2 years or so. Grew up surfing so inevitably went strapless as soon as I could. I have been researching new boards and came across this website today and am stoked to share info with everyone.

Looking at the 5-2 North Rocketfish - is this a good board?

Thanks

Hey Carter,

Welcome to Lose the Straps! Glad to have you aboard - strapless that is :!: :D

Jacksonville is a great spot to ride. How is the riding there in the summer?

I have not put much time in on the North Rocketfish, but I would bet Jon is pretty familiar with them. I saw you posted in the surf section as well and I am sure he will reply to you there.

BTW - How did you find us?

Found you on google while trying to search for different strapless boards - dropped in and found it to be very cool. Jax is not a bad place to ride at all - usually summer is a little dead but this last week we had 3 days of over 20 S/SE wind - can't beat that for summer!

I saw that you grew up in Jupiter - I am thinking about making a move down there - I try to get down there and ride whenever possible - it's such a great spot!

Good work on the site!

Great! Thank you for letting me know and the positive feedback. This is a great place to come and get feedback from other riders about their strapless gear and hopefully it will help you choose the right board for your style. Also you might want to listen to the new podcast we just put up last night. Jon talks a good bit in there about surfboards.

Nice! We have not gotten to ride down here in 3 weeks. I am beginning to have withdrawal symptoms. I figured your summer would be like ours, but 3 days over 20 is a seriously rare event in the summer unless we get a TS.

Actually, I grew up in Miami, but Jon did grow up in Jupiter. I am sure you can ask him any questions about the spot in the local scene forum.

Hi all,
Kaito here, checking in from the Ryukyu islands, Japan.

Been kiting for 4yrs, going into 5, already..!
Before I discovered kiting, I skateboarded (Park/street) for over 10yrs, got tired of taking the slam-downs on pavement, so moved on to kiting. (age didn't help either... ) Dabled a bit here and there w/friends skims, surfboards, but have mostly been stayed on TT's.

A kite-buddy told me about LTS, and was even kind enough to flow me his unused Cabal(Fire). Since then, I've been a regular lurker. Last week I had a chance to get on the Cabal skim last week & had an absolute blast! (feel'n the advantages of a sk8-background)
In the past, I would've ridden a skim for 10~15min's, then call it quits, but seeing the dedication of fellow strapless riders here on LTS, and seeing/experiencing the fun/possibilities of strapless fun, I'm now ready to revers the skim-riding vs TT riding ratio!

Thanks for providing us this forum! Great place to share the stoke and keep the strapless vibes goin!
宜しくお願いしまーす!
カイト

PS-
68kgs, Placebo 4'10"SurfSk8 (NSI surfpads), Cabal(Fire) a few TT's
Fly'n FS Pulse's in 6m & 10m

Hey Kaito,

Welcome to LTS. Whoa - Ryukyu Islands in Japan :!: That is awesome! Please post some pictures of your strapless riding so we can see you rip in your spot.

One thing I love about the internet is how people from all over the world can connect. Very cool that your buddy told you about LTS. Its great that the riders here are providing you inspiration. That is the goal, and soon, who knows that TT might be getting a little dusty. :) Hopefully we will have some more good stuff posted in the coming months to keep you motivated.

Hi Lonny, こんにちは、ラーニーさん
Thanks for the welcome :P

I tried posting some pics, but wasn't able to here from the office, so will try again from home.

Believe it or not, you have a couple other users that ride here on Okinawa too. 8)
I've also forwarded links to your site to a few of my kite friends on the mainland Japan, and they love your site too! 8)

Hey, maybe we'll be seeing more funky Japanses fonts on your forum in the near future!

Hope everyone out there gets some good wind! ~ seems like the posts have thinned out lately.

Rgds to all,

Very cool. We do tend to have a lot of lurkers vs. users. When I check the stats I definitely notice that. I think a lot of people are seeing what is going on or just wondering about strapless riding. Some people don't feel that they have anything to contribute - although that is not true. Heck, I have friends I see face to face at the beach that don't join.

Thank you for forwarding the page to your buddies appreciate that.

The US and European seasons are dying down so some of the users will be going into hybernation. However, those of us in warm, sunny, and hopefully, windy Miami will keep some strapless goodness flowing your way.

BTW - love the picture of the busy day of kiting at your spot with 7 kites on the water. :P That is beautiful. I hope one day to kite there. Always wanted to go to Japan. Get some real Sushi!

Hi Lonny,
If your travells ever do bring you to our neck of the woods, please do let us know.
(we get people from all over the globe; Italy, France, Germany, USA, which is really cool : )
Hey, maybe one day we'll get to show you some REAL sushi-joints! 8)

Yeah, 7~10 kiters is pretty much the norm for our beaches, but since we have a whole island to pick a beach from, there are beaches we can go to escape the crowd. On the other hand, we do have our days with 20~30kites up too. Since we're one of Japan's most tropical islands, we get our fair share of kite-tour groups regularly..

Seeing Okinawa's on about the same lattitude as Florida, we stay on the water year round over here too! 8)

Hope to get some ride-reports in soon, and upload some pics too.
K.
